Overview
In recent years, simulated analytical experiments have become an increasingly valuable tool for supporting undergraduate learning. Virtual laboratory environments allow students to familiarise themselves with analytical instrumentation prior to practical sessions, to engage with experimental work during periods where laboratory access is restricted, and to explore techniques that may be too costly or time intensive to deliver routinely in an undergraduate setting. Our project aims to develop a suite of interactive learning resources to enhance the teaching of analytical chemistry. A range of simulations will be created and trialled at Loughborough University and in partnership with external institutions. A key priority of the project is to work collaboratively with universities that have limited access to specialised equipment, supporting their teaching through shared digital resources and knowledge exchange. 94% of Loughborough’s research impact is rated world-leading or internationally excellent.
