Overview
Develop Level 7 clinical diagnostics skills, including test selection, interpretation, uncertainty and stewardship, through in-person study.
Entry requirements
This module is for registered healthcare practitioners working in, or preparing for, advanced practice roles who want to strengthen diagnostic test selection, interpretation, clinical reasoning and uncertainty management. The module runs in Period 3 of the 2026-27 academic year and is delivered through scheduled in-person teaching, supported by guided independent study and online learning resources. All lectures will be recorded via lecture capture. Friday 7 May 2027, 10:00-16:00 Introduction to the module and assessment; testing principles including pretest probability, test selection, performance and interpretation. Friday 21 May 2027, 09:30-16:30 Diagnostic stewardship, uncertainty management and safety netting; genomics and emerging diagnostic technologies including artificial intelligence. Friday 4 June 2027, 09:30-16:30 Laboratory diagnostics, including haematology, biochemistry, microbiology and point-of-care testing.
