History

Bangor University was founded in Bangor, Wales, UK, in 1884. To provide access to higher education to the local people of Wales, the quarrymen and farmers funded the university. Being in the oldest city in Wales, the university welcomes more than 12,000 students who hail from over 126 different countries. The university is one of the oldest educational institutions in the UK. For over 140 years, Bangor University has been committed to academic excellence. Student Life

Bangor is a small city situated between the sea and the mountains. One of the best things is that if you wander around, you’ll always run into someone you know. There are many clubs, restaurants, and bars in Bangor, which is the best way to meet up with your friends.

The university has a student club called “Academi,” which comprises a shop, two cafés, and two bars. The Pontio Centre is a social hub where you’ll find a bar, café, theatre, and cinema.

Bangor’s convenient location is ideal for those who enjoy outdoor activities, as they can engage in outdoor sports such as mountain biking, kayaking, and hiking. There are more than 150 social clubs in Bangor, so you can sign up for as many as you wish, and it’s a fantastic way to meet new people and explore.

Transportation

Most university buildings are close to the accommodation halls and study centres; therefore, students can walk to their desired locations. Bangor has its own public transport system, known as the Community Connector. It serves Bangor, Hampden, Veazie, Brewer, Orono, and Old Town.

There are buses and taxis for local routes. From the ferry ports of Holyhead and Liverpool, which are near Bangor, you can visit the Isle of Man, the Isle of Wight, Northern Ireland, and the Scottish Islands. Students arriving from London, Manchester, Cardiff, and Crewe can use the train service. Bangor is only two hours away from Liverpool and Manchester airports by train.

Housing and Accommodation

Bangor University’s accommodation provides maximum facilities to all students. For international students, it’s a great place to live, as the costs of living here are way too low. It has two villages, one is Ffriddoedd and the other is St Mary’s, both of which are close to the university’s main buildings.

Ffriddoedd is within a 5-minute walking distance of the main building; it has around 2,000 rooms, and on-site there is a Bar Uno café bar, sports centre, common rooms, and a shop. Situated near the city centre, St. Mary’s has around 600 rooms including studios, townhouses, budget rooms and rooms with private bathrooms.

There is also a budget hall option. It resides in Bryn Eithin in St. Mary’s Village, and the costs are comparatively low. Bangor University is quite renowned for its well-ranked accommodations.
