Student Life

University life is not just about mere study and education. It’s a life of new places, new adventures, and making new friends, and the student life at Cardiff Metropolitan University is quite amazing.

  1. Cardiff, being the capital of Wales, offers culture, adventure, and sport in an extensive manner.
  2. The city is wrapped up with nightlife, shopping, a thriving international food scene, green spaces, waterways, and more.
  3. The dedicated Students’ Union offers a great number of sports, societies, workshops, volunteering, and more.
  4. The Llandaff Campus is just 2 miles away from the centre of Cardiff, surrounded by parks, playing fields, and the historic village of Llandaff.
  5. Met Active offers a wide range of different health, fitness, and training programmes for all abilities, and guess what? The membership for all first-year students is free!
  6. Cardiff hosts various events like the UEFA Champions League Final, Six Nations Rugby, championship boxing, WWE, major theatre productions, big-name touring comedy acts, and musicians.
  7. You’ll always find something different to do in Cardiff, and its big-city attitude mixed with its small-city perks makes it a great place to live, work, and study.
  8. Are you a food lover? Great, as you’ll find food options for all budgets.
  9. You can explore big chains like Nando’s, Wahaca, and Bill’s; something a bit fancy like in Ivy Cardiff; food vendors like Brother Thai, Nook, and Dusty Knuckle Pizza.
  10. The Canton, Cathays, and Roath neighbourhoods offer everything from a tempting falafel craving to an irresistible craving for duck pancakes, with Cathays featuring the award-winning Indian restaurant Mint and Mustard.
  11. Roath is home to the completely vegan Anna Loka Café.
  12. If you're after perfectly brewed coffee, Pontcanna has plenty of lively coffee shops to choose from, including popular ones like Lufkin and Ground.
  13. Down to music? Great venues like The Motorpoint Arena, Principality Stadium, and St. David’s Hall host all the famous tours, while medium-sized venues like Tramshed and The Globe host a range of artists.
  14. Acapela Studios, Clwb Ifor Bach, and the Students’ Union bars offer smaller, more personal music nights.
  15. The Sŵn Festival happens every October, promoting new music coming in and out of Wales.
  16. St David’s, located in the centre of the city, is Wales' leading shopping hub, featuring brands like Pandora, Apple, and the UK’s largest H&M, alongside department stores like John Lewis and Marks & Spencer.
  17. Cardiff also boasts of having seven Victorian and Edwardian arcades and Cardiff Market, which offers a unique shopping experience.
  18. Ocean calling you? Good as Cardiff Bay is only a short bus or train ride from the city centre; you can even walk between the two.
  19. Clubbers can usually be found gathered around St Mary Street, just a short walk from Cardiff Central Train Station, and Greyfriars Road, home to student nights at PRYZM.
