History

Formally known as Colledge of Aeronautics, the education institution was formed in 1946, under the supervision of the first appointed governor Lord Kings Norton. Under his jurisdiction, the Cranfield School of Management section was introduced in 1967 and gained degree-awarding ability in 1969. The same year Cranfield Institute of Technology was incorporated by royal charter giving the institution full university affiliation.

Later, the National College of Agricultural Engineering was founded in 1975 and a new department was added in partnership with the Royal Military College of Science in 1984 (now known as "Cranfield Defence and Security").

In 1993, the institution got its present name “Cranfield University”  through the amendment of its royal charter. Almost a decade later in 2003, Cranfield stopped providing undergraduate courses and became a fully postgraduate degree provider.

Today, Cranfield is globally known for its prestigious postgraduate education and research in science, engineering, technology, and management providing 6% of the UK job market.
