De Montfort is a prestigious degree-awarding institute providing various courses and scholarships in accordance with the Further and Higher Education Act. The varsity has four faculties: Health and Life Sciences (H&LS), Computing Engineering and Media (CEM), Art, Design, and Humanities (ADH), and Business and Law (BAL). The varsity has around 27,000 students and more than 3,240 staff.

The varsity has evolved into a modern, high-tech varsity with a whopping fund of £136 million. It is among the few universities that provide the block teaching method, and according to students, they’re enjoying the method. Students can amplify their overall ability by being a part of this programme.

The varsity is dedicated to unlocking the potential of its students; it helps students find jobs in their related fields and provides professional guidance to achieve their goals. They have a campus-based placement scheme called Frontrunners, which helps students find the best work placement.

De Montfort University has some notable alumni. These include the politician and mayor of Leicester, Sir Peter Soulsby, the famous actor of Game of Thrones, Charles Dance, former professional footballer Park Ji-sung, renowned adventurer Debra Searle, Olympic rower Emma Twigg, and many more.

Mission Statement

It is the only university in the UK to be a global hub for one of the Sustainable Development Goals, SDG 16, which ennobles justice, peace, and strong institutions. It is among the 17 universities worldwide to become global hubs for the SDGs. With a goal of improving the lives of millions of people by 2030, the SDGs were founded by the UN in 2010.

History

De Montfort University’s origins lie in the Leicester School of Art, founded in 1870. The school elongated due to the demands of late 19th-century industry, introducing subjects like building, machine drawing, and engineering. In 1897, they realised that the infrastructure was no longer suitable for the students. An amount of £25,000 was raised to build a well-infrastructured school that would serve its purpose for not less than a century.

In 1930, the university's pharmacy course was recognised by the University of London and the Pharmaceutical Chemist Diploma by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain. Later on, the University of London recognised the university as suitable for engineering.

The School of Architecture, Building and Building Crafts, and Engineering was developed in 1936–1937. The Hawthorn Building was completed in 1938–1939. Back in 1946, the varsity purchased three houses and established the first accommodations.

The Performance Arts Centre for Excellence (PACE) was funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England with a grant of £4.5 million in 2007. In 2009, a new building for the Faculty of Business and Law (the Hugh Aston Building) was established.

They have ‘Magazine Square’ in the centre, which is the new business and law centre that had a cost of around £35 million. In 2016, the ‘Vijay Patel Building’ was established at the centre, which is a new arts and design building.
