History

In 1834, the School of Medicine and Surgery was established in Newcastle, and in 1871, the College of Physical Science was founded. And, in 1908, both colleges became part of the federal University of Durham.

These two colleges merged in 1937 to form King’s College which achieved excellence in fundamental disciplines. It shows success in the fields of science, mathematics, naval architecture, engineering, arts, literature, and so on.

In 1963, King’s College became an independent institute, the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. The city campus located in the heart of Newcastle, harbors major faculties and a Business School.

Many of the campus buildings are modern, but some are still the same reflecting the university's long history.
