History

The origin of Nottingham Trent University dates back to the establishment of Nottingham Government School and College in 1843. Later in 1865, the school curriculum was transferred to the Waverley Building, expanding its cultural, economic and political growth throughout the following years.

The institution saw a major upgrade in 1881, through the establishment of the University College of Nottingham and started its academic support from Arkwright Building. The college expanded quickly, incorporating various subject areas and departments.

Such as engineering, classics, education, economics, history, philosophy, french, geology, classics, pharmacy etc. Nottingham Government School of Design was introduced as an extension to their study options in 1934 (now known as the College of Art).

During the time of world war, the college building was heavily damaged. The council along with hefty donations from local entrepreneur Jesse Boot renovated the college and announced its intention to become a university. The institution that we now know was named Nottingham and District Technical College in 1945.

After 4 more years, the Nottingham Farm Institute was incorporated to offer farmers agricultural work mix with scientific skills. Within the time span from the year 1949 to 1988, the institution achieved some major overhauls, incorporating new courses and introduced new buildings for new departments.

And finally in 1992, with the accreditation from the Further and Higher Education Act, it achieved university status and became what we know as Nottingham Trent University.

Today, the university has become a known name among thousands of alumni members and young students who consider the university a world-class institution offering high-quality education and research opportunities on multiple platforms.
