History
SUNY Oswego was founded in 1861 as the Oswego Primary Teachers' Training School by Edward Austin Sheldon. In 1913, the Oswego Normal School moved to its current lakeside campus and opened Sheldon Hall.
In 1942, it became Oswego State Teachers College and could grant degrees. In 1948, it joined the SUNY system. By 1962, it offered a number of liberal arts and professional programmes.
In the 1960s and '70s, student growth led to new buildings across campus. In 1992, the school split into the College of Arts and Sciences, Business, and Education. In 2007, it added the School of Communication, Media, and the Arts, and in 2008 renamed Arts and Sciences to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
That same year, Oswego opened an extension site in Syracuse, now an entire branch campus offering bachelor's completion and graduate degrees.
