Student Life

The University of Exeter Students’ Union, called The Students’ Guild, represents the students on the Exeter campuses. It is an award-winning organisation and a central part of student life.

The union remains busy with clubs and societies, events, entertainment, sports, and support. It is the mouthpiece of university students that ensures students are at their best at every level and on every issue.

The union works on fundraising, volunteering, and entertainment. They arrange live music and regular quiz nights, and the Ram Bar hosts the evening. Students from all around the world gather here and build up a strong and diverse community.

The University of Exeter consists of three main campuses. Streatham Campus and St. Luke’s Campus are located in Exeter, while Penryn Campus is located in Cornwall.

All the places are beautiful enough, with abundant student support and facilities. Exeter City is a lively and historical place with high-street stores, restaurants, quirky cafes, and boutique shops.

Cornwall City is more like Exeter, with its scenic beaches and coves. The city is surrounded by modern artists, young professionals, and university students, which makes it an amazing place to live.

Transportation

Getting around the city of Exeter is convenient due to the availability of public transport. The roads are well connected, and there are wide walkways to travel anywhere within the city just by walking or cycling. Students can also travel easily within the city centre by electric train.

Stagecoach is the main bus operator within the city, and students with a valid student ID can travel at a discounted fare. The "UNI line" is particularly useful for students, connecting Streatham and St Luke's campuses, as well as key locations like the city centre and train stations.

Exeter Central bus station and Exeter St. David’s railway station are both inclose proximity. The city is also relatively compact, and many students find that walking or cycling is a convenient way to get around, especially between the campuses and the city centre. All the amenities are accessible within a short walk.

Thus, students get an unlimited travel opportunity in the Exeter area. Students have the opportunity to get a Unirider Gold bus pass to travel around the Southwest. Moreover, onboard coach facilities are available while travelling with a Megabus.

Exeter has two main train stations. They are Exeter St David's and Exeter Central. These stations provide connections to other cities in the UK, making it easy to travel for weekend trips or longer journeys. And railcards can offer significant discounts on train fares for students.

Overall, Exeter is not only affordable to live in but also cheaper to travel and more convenient. Students are always encouraged to save money and explore Exeter by foot or by cycling.

Housing and Accommodation

The University of Exeter offers a comfortable living place situated on the university’s Streatham Campus. International students can also choose University of Exeter accommodation, which is private.

The INTO accommodation provides a private single bedroom, a private kitchen, and shower facilities. Therefore, the Homestay programme offers a private bedroom in a local host’s home.

Accommodation at the University of Exeter is very careful about selecting hosts. Exeter students can access the INTO Exeter accommodation programme and choose, with the help of enrolment counsellors, Exeter accommodation on campus. The student residences are categorised into three sections.

They are Superior En Suite, Shared Studio, and Studio. Every room has common facilities, such as a kitchen and a shared study space. Therefore, students feel comfortable getting in touch with on-site shops and takeaway café services.

The Superior En suite has modern amenities like a single bedroom as well as an en suite shower room, a shared kitchen, a semi double bed, a wardrobe, a study desk, and a chair.

Modern facilities are available in the shared space. Hob and oven, food storage, microwave, fridge, freezer, table, and chairs, cutlery, crockery, and cooking utensils are also included.

Moreover, the two separate bedroom units along with private shower rooms are found in ‘Shared Studio’. The third one, 'Studio', has the same facilities, including a kitchenette, an en suite shower room, a hob, a microwave, a fridge freezer, and so on.
