The university is renowned for its practical approach to learning, high employability rates, and strong links with law firms and businesses. ULaw's mission is to provide exceptional legal and business education, equipping students with legal skills and ethical knowledge to become successful in their careers.

The institution also highlights its dedication to inclusivity, diversity, and creating an environment that nurtures personal and professional growth

Extended Overview

When it comes to providing specialised legal education, the University of Law is one of the oldest institutions in the United Kingdom. The founding of Gibson & Weldon, a prominent tutoring business, and the subsequent founding of The Law Society School of Law both date back to 1876.

The two schools merged in 1962 to form what is now known as "The College of Law." In 2012, UOL became the first non-government legal studies institution in the world to be given the authority to offer degrees.

The University of Law is widely regarded as the preeminent institution for providing both pre-law students and practising attorneys with cutting-edge, professionally-oriented education and development opportunities. Many UK law firms have sent their trainees solely to them over the years because they have helped them satisfy their training and development needs.

In 2006, they created history by becoming the first independent law university to be awarded degree-awarding powers by the Privy Council. This allowed them to launch their Bachelor of Laws and LLM programmes, which are aimed squarely at the legal profession.

They have a long history of excellence in legal education and pride themselves on staying at the forefront of the field through cutting-edge research and cutting-edge pedagogy.

Mission Statement

The mission statement of The University of Law (ULaw) is: "To provide exceptional legal education and training, equipping students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in their professional careers."

This mission reflects ULaw's commitment to delivering high-quality education and preparing students for successful careers in law and business.

ULaw's teaching is rooted in problem-solving and argument evaluation, aiming to develop practical, career-ready skills. The institution aims to develop a new study model that would be based on five pillars. They are, Teaching Excellence, Assessment, Student Experience, Data and Design.

These primary pillars will be implemented by four target themes namely, Inclusivity, Distinctiveness, Sustainability and Impact to develop unparalleled legal education and prepare future legal leaders. But above all engraving ethical values to make judgement based on social justice and ethical values.

History

They have been offering specialised legal training for many years in the UK. The founding of Gibson & Weldon, a prominent tutoring business, and the subsequent founding of The Law Society School of Law both date back to 1876. They merged their campuses and formed collaborations with other prestigious universities throughout the world, like the GISMA Business School in Berlin.

In 2006, they created history by being the first autonomous institution to be granted degree awarding powers by the Privy Council, which allowed them to launch their undergraduate and postgraduate law degree programmes aimed at the legal profession.

In 2018, they announced the opening of a new campus in Hong Kong, giving students the opportunity to study in the centre of a major international financial and trade centre.

In September of 2019, they had their first official class in Hong Kong.

They received a perfect score of five stars in every category for which they were evaluated in the 2021 QS World University Rankings (Teaching, Employability, Online Learning, Academic Development, and Inclusiveness) and a perfect score of five stars for the field of law.
