Overview

The University of Sheffield is a public research university located in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. According to the latest HESA statistics, this university has maintained the highest engineering research income and expenditure among all UK universities for two years in a row.

Extended Overview

The University of Sheffield is one of the top engineering universities in Europe, one of the six original red brick universities, and a founding member of the Russell Group. The university is also part of the Worldwide Universities Network, the N8 Group of Northern England's top eight research universities, and the White Rose University Consortium.

Sheffield is a beautiful home to more than 30,000 students, of whom more than 7,000 are international students hailing from more than 150 countries. For students, this place will be an amusement park, as this city was voted the UK’s 3rd best student city in 2023.

This city is one of the greenest cities in the UK and makes up about 60% with parks and gardens. Six Nobel Prize winners have ties to Sheffield, either as former long-term staff or alumni of the university.

Mission Statement

The University of Sheffield states that its mission is ‘Create a world-leading resource-efficient, sustainable and resilient supply chain infrastructure addressing critical resource existentiality and challenges using a combination of method, tool, model, technology, process and system.’

History

The University of Sheffield's roots date back to the establishment of Sheffield Medical School in 1828, Firth College in 1879, and Sheffield Technical School in 1884. These three institutions merged in 1897 to form the University College of Sheffield, which was later granted a royal charter as the University of Sheffield by King Edward VII in 1905.
