The University for the Creative Arts is an esteemed specialist art and design university in England, UK. It ranks as the third-largest institution for higher education in design, creative, and performing arts in the UK.

Extended Overview

The University for the Creative Arts has several campuses located in Canterbury, Epsom, and Farnham, a teaching base at The Maidstone Studios, and a project and exhibition space in Folkestone Creative Quarter.

The Farnham campus is the largest of all the campuses. In 2022, it became the headquarters for ISEA International. The UK’s first business school for the creative industries is situated at UCA Epsom.

The University for the Creative Arts is packed with more than 15,000 students, of which almost 1,800 are international students, with a wide range of undergraduate programmes, postgraduate programmes, and international scholarships.

History

The history of the University for the Creative Arts lies in the establishment of several small schools in Kent and Surrey. The first establishment was the Guildford School of Art, founded in 1856, and the second establishment was Maidstone College of Art, founded in 1867.

During the second half of the 20th century, various schools merged and formed Kent Institute of Art & Design in 1987 and Surrey Institute of Art & Design in 1995. In 2005, these two institutes merged and formed the University College for the Creative Arts.

In 2008, the University College for the Creative Arts gained full university status from the Privy Council and became what it is today.
