The University of Bedfordshire takes pride in being an institution that has won numerous awards and is recognised on a global scale. Its history of providing students with a high-quality education dates back more than a century.

The University of Bedfordshire has campuses in two big cities north of London: Luton and Bedford. This university has two main campuses, one in the centre of Luton and one on the edges of Bedford. Nursing and midwifery degrees are also offered at the university's Butterfield Park campus on the edge of Luton and at the Buckinghamshire campus in Aylesbury. Putteridge Bury is a fifth campus that hosts the postgraduate business school.

History

A public research institute, the University of Bedfordshire, Luton, England, has a long history. It started as a Bedford Teacher Training College in 1882. Over the years, it grew and changed, eventually becoming the University of Luton in 1993. And in 2006, the institute changed its name and became the University of Bedfordshire by merging with other universities.

As a beacon of diversity, the University of Bedfordshire is home to a vibrant community of about 20,000 students from over 100 countries. Our commitment to inclusivity extends to everyone, including those who are the first in their families to attend university. We take pride in our significant portion of mature learners and students from diverse ethnic backgrounds, offering a wide range of programmes, from foundation degrees to doctorates, to cater to all.

It also has a presence in London and Birmingham. The university has partnerships with institutions in countries like Trinidad and Tobago, Egypt, Vietnam, Oman, and Mauritius.

In 2012, the institute earned the most prestigious FairTrade status. Also, it became the eighth (08) in the UK in the People and Planet University Green League in 2019. Besides, it received the Eco Campus Platinum award in 2020. Most notably, in 2014, it entered the Research Assessment Exercises and earned an improvement of 22 places (REF Power Ranking).

Above all, the university has made the fourth (04) largest improvement in the research sector, with almost 50% per cent of the university research recognised as world-leading or internationally excellent.

Campus Facilities

The university’s Bedford campus is well-equipped for student life and learning. It features a top-notch Physical Education and Sport Science Centre, a 280-seat theatre, a restaurant, dance studios, and plenty of social spaces. On-campus housing at Liberty Park offers 500 en-suite study bedrooms, creating a comfortable and convenient living experience for students.

The university campus boasts a beautifully designed library building with around 360 individual study spaces, teaching areas, staff offices, and traditional library services. Nearby, the three-story Gateway building provides additional teaching and study spaces, lecture halls, and a dedicated student service centre for all support needs.

Another prime campus located in the heart of Luton offers a range of purpose-built facilities, including a modern STEM building, a seven-story library, and a dedicated Postgraduate and CPD Centre. Students can access specialised resources for every course, such as the Media Arts Centre, a Moot Court, Business Pods, Healthcare Simulation Suites. Also, they can access a fully equipped campus gym and a three-story art studio with spaces for fashion and photography.

The Aylesbury campus is another busy campus dedicated to healthcare education and located on the grounds of Stoke Mandeville Hospital. It offers a range of nursing and midwifery programmes and provides students with opportunities to learn from experienced healthcare professionals.
