The University of Derby is a prestigious institute located in Derby, East Midlands, England, UK. It was previously known as Derby College, which gained university status in 1992. The institution owns the Derby Theatre in Derby City. It has a long heritage of outstanding innovation.

The university offers more than 314 undergraduate courses and 174 postgraduate courses, as well as generous scholarships for international students. It is ranked Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) and is among the top 50 UK universities for providing industry-related expert teaching.

This institute has more than 35,000 students who hail from 120 different countries and more than 3,500 international students. The university is split into two sites. One is Derby, and the other is Chesterfield. On both sites, you’ll have the perks of every modern European town. It is quite safe and enjoyable, and it has a vast, diverse community.

History

The University of Derby can be traced back to 1851, when the Derby Diocesan Institution for Training Schoolmistresses was formed. Over the years, it has merged with various institutions, comprising the Derby School of Art in 1878 and the Derby Central School of Science and Art in 1928. In 1977, these institutions merged and formed the Derby Lonsdale College of Higher Education. During the 1980s, it offered various degrees in partnership with the Council for National Academic Awards (CNAA). In 1992, it achieved university status and formed University of Derby.

The institute's business degrees are dual accredited by the CMI, which indicates that upon completion, students will automatically receive a second professional qualification.
