The University's journey began in 1838 as the Royal Polytechnic Institution, a pioneering establishment dedicated to practical science and technical education. Founded by Sir George Cayley, it aimed to bring innovation and accessible learning to a broad audience.

Over time, the institution evolved, reflecting societal changes and educational needs. In 1882, it became the Polytechnic Young Men's Christian Institute, and later, in 1891, Polytechnic-Regent Street, solidifying its presence in central London.

The institution underwent significant transformations in the 20th century. In 1970, it transitioned into the Polytechnic of Central London, sharpening vocational and professional training. And it is also expanding its course offerings to meet the demands of a modernising society.

A pivotal moment arrived in 1992, when it was granted university status, becoming the University of Westminster. This recognition underscored its academic achievements and research contributions, cementing its role as a leading institution in higher education.
