The University's history began in 1946 as the Worcester Emergency Teacher Training College, established to address the post-World War II need for qualified educators.

In 1948, it transitioned to Worcester Teacher Training College, solidifying its focus on education. Over the decades, the institution expanded its academic offerings, evolving into Worcester College of Higher Education in 1976.

This period saw significant growth in student numbers and the introduction of diverse courses beyond teacher training.
