Overview
This module is for registered healthcare practitioners working directly with people with complex mental health presentations in a range of settings and roles. The module aims to advance knowledge and understanding of effective assessment, diagnosis and management of undifferentiated and undiagnosed mental health conditions, in addition to pre-diagnosed biological and psychological conditions in mental health. The course will be delivered in two parts, with Part 1 covering the context and care processes underpinning advanced mental health practice and Part 2 focussing on the application of advanced knowledge, understanding and skills through case-based learning. Themes running throughout the module include the patient’s voice, therapeutic alliance, safeguarding and risk assessment, partnership working, ethics and evidence-based practice. This module is underpinned by and mapped against the Health Education England (2021) Advanced Practice Mental Health Curriculum and Capabilities Framework, which builds on the Health Education England (2017) Multi-professional Framework for Advanced Clinical Practice in England. Completion of this module within the context of the full MSc Advanced Professional Practice programme will provide the learner with the capabilities to become a Mental Health Advanced Practitioner.
