Overview
Bioengineering merges principles of engineering with biological sciences to address critical challenges in healthcare. This interdisciplinary field is vital for developing innovative solutions, such as advanced medical devices, tissue engineering, and bioprocessing technologies, therefore significantly impacting patient care and quality of life. Our PhD in Bioengineering focuses on the application of engineering principles to biological systems across a range of research areas. These include biomaterials, biomechanics, regenerative medicine, and bioinformatics. The programme is structured to enhance independent research capabilities, with tailored supervision and access to cutting-edge laboratories. You’ll receive training in experimental design, computational modelling, and data analysis, alongside workshops in scientific communication and ethics. Interdisciplinary learning is at the heart of our programmes, therefore collaborative projects with industry and healthcare partners enrich the research experience and foster innovation. Additionally, the University provides career support, including networking opportunities and professional development resources, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for diverse career paths in academia and industry.
