Overview
In this module, you will learn about current maternal health issues within the global health agenda and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Entry requirements
This module is suitable for midwives and any other maternal health professionals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds, as well as those working in global health, policy, or development. It may also appeal to non-clinical professionals interested in maternity care, maternal health equity, or the social, economic, and political factors influencing health outcomes worldwide. Teaching takes place online in Term 1. Live classes are scheduled every week on Thursdays, with sessions from 13:00-15:00 one week and 16:00-18:00 the following week. Dates: October: 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 Oct 2026 November: 5, 12, 19, 26 Nov 2026 December: 3 Dec 2026 By participating in this module, you will develop your understanding of global maternal health challenges, the role of midwifery in diverse settings, and the social, economic, and policy factors that shape maternal and newborn health and outcomes. This course is worth 15 academic credits at QAA Level 7.
