Overview
MA Social Work blends classroom learning with hands-on experience, allowing you to apply your theoretical knowledge through two practice placements where you’ll develop your skills in real-world settings. Social workers play a vital role in supporting some of the most marginalised and vulnerable members of society, including older adults, children in care, individuals with learning or physical disabilities, those facing mental health challenges, homeless people, and people struggling with drug abuse. This degree covers the core aspects of social work, including legal and policy frameworks, social work theory, psychological and sociological concepts, and the principles of power, discrimination, and anti-oppressive practice. You’ll spend 170 days on placement, providing you with the chance to explore various areas of social work and identify your specialism.
