Highlights: Study one language, French or Spanish or with our flexible degree you can improve your multilingualism by learning both languages. Study in a multilingual environment, we cater for those beginning a language from scratch, as well as more advanced learners. Broaden your horizons, spending the third year of this four-year degree abroad in one or more countries. You’ll consolidate and enhance your language learning, increase your confidence and cultural awareness. Learn about history and culture in the societies where your language is spoken. Depending on your interests, for instance, choose options in history, literature, cinema, theatre, and popular culture. Close-knit, supportive learning community with easy access to lecturers. Opportunities to mentor pupils aged 12-14 in local schools and join our active student-run LangSoc. Course Overview: Study French or Spanish on this Modern Languages degree - explore the history, arts and culture of countries where those languages are spoken, and spend one or two years abroad. You can focus your degree on one language - French or Spanish or enhance your multilingualism by learning both languages. At the same time, you can also explore historical and cultural aspects relating to your chosen language and the communities that speak it, such as film, contemporary issues or politics. The year abroad is fantastic preparation for today’s multilingual, multicultural world of work. You can add a second year abroad via the ‘International Experience’ option. Using your language skills in real-life situations not only increases your proficiency, but also boosts your confidence, independence and resilience. You’ll graduate with transferrable skills in communication, translation, presentation, problem solving, research, analysis, teamworking, adaptability, resilience, and people. Since the University was founded in 1884, Bangor University has excelled at teaching and research in Modern Languages. Our staff have expertise in translation, film, literature, travel writing, performance, visual cultures, popular culture, socio-political change and transnational cultures. This is reflected in some of the optional module choices available, which broaden your knowledge and enable you to pursue your passions. Widely recognised as one of the most effective ways to learn a language, you’ll be taught in small groups on this Modern Languages degree. This not only facilitates more opportunities for you practise oral, aural and translation skills, but also makes it easier to ask questions and gain feedback. While our courses are designed to cater for those who have studied one or more languages at A Level, we do offer pathways for those beginning a language from scratch.
