History
The University of Greenwich was founded in 1890 as Woolwich Polytechnic, the second-oldest polytechnic in the UK. Frank Didden founded it. Woolwich merged with part of Hammersmith College of Art and Building and became Thames Polytechnic in 1970. It got university status in 1992 and was named the University of Greenwich in 1993.

- In 2014, the Stockwell Street Building was formed with funding of a whopping £76 million, which is now home to the campus library, film and TV studios, and state-of-the-art editing suites.
- The new Dreadnought Building lies in the centre of the Greenwich Campus, which was funded at approximately £25 million.
- All campuses comprise libraries with over 1.5 million books, e-books, and journals.
- Due to exam periods, libraries stay open 24 hours a day.
