Overview

Highlights: Have your tuition fees fully funded by NHS Wales and receive £1,000 towards living costs when you commit to working in Wales for two years after graduation. Additional financial support is available if you choose to study through the medium of Welsh, reflecting our role as pioneers of bilingual education. A 50/50 split between university and practice means you’ll spend half your time on clinical placements across North Wales - from acute hospital wards and specialist units to GP surgeries, community nursing teams, and care homes. Develop your skills as part of a real healthcare team, learning alongside midwives, consultants, radiographers, social workers and other professionals, in a supportive environment where every voice is valued. Train in cutting-edge clinical skills facilities, from our mock hospital ward and community flat to advanced simulation suites and state-of-the-art virtual reality (VR), preparing you for the realities of professional nursing. This course is taught in English, with opportunities to study in Welsh if you wish. At Bangor, the Welsh language is not an obligation but an opportunity - enriching your learning and connecting you more closely with patients and communities. Course Overview: If you want to help others and make a real difference to the lives of patients, their families or carers, adult nursing offers a rewarding and highly respected career. What’s more, with an ageing global population, there’ll be no shortage of demand. Validated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), our Bachelor of Adult Nursing (BN) prepares you to become a professional, caring and competent nurse, who prioritises patient needs. It blends wide-ranging clinical placements* with research based theory and supported clinical skills training featuring virtual technologies, which enable you to practise skills in a supported environment. Spending half of your time on placement instils the importance of being part of a wider healthcare team. On placement you are supported by designated placement tutors to enable you to develop your clinical skills. Your on-site supervisors and tutors will also share their experiences of delivering, leading and shaping adult care. Their backgrounds range from nursing in custody and for the armed forces to general practice, community-based services, acute and specialist services within hospitals, running wards or undertaking internationally-renowned research. As a registered adult nurse, no two days are ever the same. You will be caring for the needs of people across the lifespan - from safeguarding the health of mothers and their babies, to supporting those nearing end of life. Through clinical placements*, you will be able (subject to availability) to experience: acute sector nursing (general, specialist and surgical); critical care nursing (intensive and high dependency care, emergency department, theatres and recovery); and community nursing (in the home environment and primary care). You’ll begin taking observations and checking blood pressure, progressing to prepare for and supporting surgical procedures. From the outset, clinical skills training builds the skills required to become a professional registered nurse. Our simulation-based training equipment, using VR and lifelike manikins, lets you safely examine ‘patients’ and interact in real-time to clinical situations based on real-life examples. This prepares you for the realities of working and responding to such situations, both on placement and future practice. *Please note that in order to achieve the necessary diversity of placement experience to meet the requirements for clinical competency, you will need to travel to placements across Wales. Nursing and Midwifery Council registration To work in the UK as a nurse, you must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). To do this, you first need to study an NMC-recognised degree programme, which leads to a specific degree qualification…
