We regularly work with international institutions such as the European Central Bank (ECB), Bank for International Settlements (BIS), and policymakers in government, regulators, and with the financial sector. Develop skills using industry-standard financial tools including Bloomberg terminals, Stocktrak portfolio simulation and Stata statistical analysis software. Bangor University has taught banking and finance for over five decades and is a Chartered Banker Institute ‘Centre of Excellence’. Teaching is informed by world class research in banking risk and regulation, market structure, credit, fintech and more. Course Overview: This Banking and Finance degree provides in-depth knowledge of how financial institutions, financial markets and their regulators work, alongside the role they play in our corporate, commercial and personal lives. On this degree in banking and finance we'll covers topics such as financial markets, investment and portfolio management, corporate and personal finance, behavioural finance, financial techniques and analysis. Finance is more important and influential than ever before, not just in its impact on global and national economies, but also to us as consumers and individuals. Consider levels of spending and debt, the value and diversity of financial instruments or sheer volume of financial information now available to us. You will have access to current and historical financial data for the UK and overseas markets, and the same tools and software used by the world’s leading banks, corporations, governments and policymakers. Practising in a safe environment, you can gain practical skills in trading without the financial risk. Highly qualified and experienced, our academics bring insight from the worlds of policy, practice and research, grounding your financial knowledge in real world application. Their wide-ranging expertise includes: market structure/competition, bank performance and risk-taking, regulatory initiatives like European Banking Union, negative interest rate policy, fintech, climate finance, executive compensation, financial ethics and credit ratings. We encourage you to look at what is happening in financial news and keep updated with what’s happening in the world today. Recently we have considered how bank funding for fossil fuels affects climate change, the impact of sustained high inflation on the financial sector, retail investment apps and the scandals surrounding cryptocurrency. All of this helps you to better understand how people, firms, banks, financial institutions and governments make decisions, and the implications of such decisions on individuals, businesses and society.
