Overview

As part of our ongoing commitment to keeping our courses up to date and aligned with current industry standards, this programme has been updated from a Higher National Certificate (HNC) to a Certificate of Higher Education (CertHE) for students starting from September 2026. If you are currently enrolled on the HNC programme, this change will not affect your studies, and you will still receive an HNC qualification upon successful completion of the course. The engineers that made the world From the rebuilding of inner cities to remarkable constructions like the Channel tunnel, the world is full of building and infrastructure projects that couldn’t happen without civil engineers. This course has been developed with input from our Industrial Advisory Panel to give a practical design-orientated course which will equip you with the skills and qualifications you need to join the construction industry. If you intend to do a part-time degree at LSBU, we advise taking the CertHE route, as it is closely integrated into our degree programmes. Year 2 of the CertHE is also designed for graduates from other fields, now working in civil engineering.
