Overview
Research covers the environmental, economic and social factors underpinning sustainability in forest systems, studying processes ranging from individual ecological interactions to those acting at a landscape level. Research Areas Forest Ecology and Management with specialisations in: Ecophysiology of the impact and tolerance of heavy metals Plant Nutrition Mycorrhizas in forest ecosystems Impact of CO2 Forest Genetics and tree breeding Forest inventory Conservation and restoration of forest eco-systems Forest bioenergy Programme Length PhD: 3 years full-time or 5 years part-time; MPhil: 2 years full-time or 3 years part-time Study Overseas We offer 'split' PhD/MPhil programmes for international students with part of the study taking place in the student's own country or a third country. Many of our British and other European students also carry out fieldwork overseas for their research.
