Benefit from a supportive study environment with easy access to lecturers and classes taught by internationally respected researchers and practising solicitors, a moot court and dedicated law library. Gain expertise in core legal subjects that satisfy the Bar Standards Board's requirements for barristers and provide essential knowledge for solicitors. Active student Law Society, mooting competitions, field trips to judicial institutions such as the UK and Welsh Parliaments, Supreme Court, and guest speakers, which have included senior judges and prominent academics. Course Overview: Our LLB (Hons) Law with Psychology degree explores two fascinating disciplines which both deal with human behaviour. Psychology seeks to understand and modify our actions, while the purpose of law is to control them. Studying psychology alongside the legal topics required for a qualifying law degree gives you a unique perspective of juvenile, civil and criminal justice systems. Understanding of the criminal personality could inform crime prevention and punishment, while behavioural psychology can shed insight on common social issues that lead to law-breaking, such as violence or substance abuse. As well as being a ‘stepping stone’ to a future career as a solicitor or barrister, this degree develops practical competencies valued by employers outside the legal profession: research and diagnostic skills, an analytical mind, ability to listen, form sound arguments, read and quickly process complex information. Studying two different subjects simultaneously provides a broader education. You’ll learn how these two complementary fields overlap and interact with each other, which can ultimately expand your career options on graduation. You will graduate with a Law degree which meets the academic requirements for qualification as a barrister (Bar Standards Board compliant), but also provides essential knowledge for students aspiring to be solicitors. Amongst an attractive array of modules, you can choose vocational subjects tested in the Solicitors’ Qualifying Examinations (SQE) - such as Business Law, Wills and Estates, and Property Practice - providing you with a gateway to professional training to become a solicitor. As well as the courts service, law commission, solicitors’ firms and barristers’ chambers, our graduates in Law work in local and national government, universities, research institutes, the United Nations, citizens advice, banks, armed forces and emergency services - everywhere from the UK to Africa, US and China.
