Overview

This course for intercalating medical students comprises four taught modules and a research project. The taught modules are designed to give a solid foundation in qualitative and quantitative research, including study design, research methods, statistics, ethics and research governance. The research project is a substantial piece of practical work running throughout the course. The University of Leicester's research reputation is truly global. In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF), Leicester was ranked 2nd in the UK for its world leading research in Clinical Medicine. Clinical Medicine at Leicester was also ranked 18th in the world and 5th in the UK by the 2022 Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects. Working with national and international experts within their research fields, you will contribute a significant piece of research to your chosen discipline, often presenting your work at national and international conferences. You can conduct laboratory and in silico-based projects within the College of Life Sciences or more clinically focused projects in collaboration with colleagues at University Hospitals Leicester. Some recent research topics include: Applications are welcomed for the MSc Medical Research from students who have successfully completed at least three years of a UK undergraduate medical degree at the time of starting the programme. IELTS 7 - 7.5 or equivalent. If your first language is not English, you may need to provide evidence of your English language ability. If you do not yet meet our requirements, our English Language Teaching Unit (ELTU) offers a range of courses to help you to improve your English to the necessary standard. If you are resident outside the UK and the Republic of Ireland, you will need to pay a deposit to secure your place. This will be subtracted from your total tuition fee.
