Highlights: The foundation year prepares you for degree-level study. Optional modules let you study beginners or intermediate level French or Spanish, while developing essential academic skills. Learn about history and culture in the societies where your language is spoken. Depending on your interests, you can choose options in history, literature, cinema, theatre and popular culture. We cater for those beginning a language from scratch, as well as more advanced learners. You’ll study in a bilingual and multilingual environment. Progress to our BA (Hons) Modern Languages where you can choose to study one or two languages choosing from French or/and Spanish. Broaden your horizons, spending the a year of this degree abroad in one or more countries. You’ll consolidate and enhance your language learning, increase your confidence and cultural awareness. Course Overview: Our BA (Hons) Modern Languages with Foundation Year provides an alternative route into undergraduate study if you don’t meet the entry requirements to begin the standard four-year degree. The additional foundation year helps you better prepare for degree-level study, giving you a taste of learning at this higher level. You’ll join a close-knit, supportive learning community with easy access to lecturers. Depending on your language proficiency, we offer separate streams in first year for beginners/near beginners or those who are more advanced. Our staff have expertise in translation, film, literature, travel writing, performance, visual cultures, popular culture, socio-political change and transnational cultures. This is reflected in some of the optional module choices available, both on the foundation year and the degree, which broaden your knowledge and enable you to pursue your passions. On completion of the foundation year, you will join Year 1 of the Modern Languages degree programme. The degree gives you the flexibility to study one or two languages, choosing from French or Spanish or both. You'll explore the history, arts or culture of countries where those languages are spoken and spend a year abroad.
