Overview
Gain a comprehensive grounding in psychological science through a flexible, research-led online MSc designed for graduates from non-psychology backgrounds. The MSc Psychology (Conversion) at Liverpool John Moores University provides graduates from non-psychology backgrounds with a comprehensive grounding in contemporary psychological science and research practice. Designed and delivered directly by LJMU's School of Psychology, this online master's degree combines academic rigour, flexible online learning, and research-led teaching to prepare you for specialised postgraduate and professional pathways in psychology. The curriculum covers all major domains of psychological science, including: biological psychology cognitive psychology developmental psychology individual differences social psychology conceptual and historical issues research methods Please note: The course has been designed to align with the expectations for future accreditation by the British Psychological Society (BPS). In order to gain accreditation, a course must meet strict criteria, including being currently active. The School of Psychology will therefore apply for accreditation during the first year of delivery. It is expected that this will be complete by the time our first cohort of students graduate, but as this is dependent on the BPS, can not be guaranteed. You will study through a fully online and predominantly asynchronous model that allows you to engage flexibly with learning materials while balancing professional, personal, or caring responsibilities. Regular synchronous office hours and supervisor meetings provide direct academic support and help foster a strong sense of academic community throughout the course. Teaching is informed by the latest research and scholarship within LJMU's School of Psychology. Module content reflects contemporary debates, emerging methodologies, and current empirical developments across the discipline, ensuring that students engage with psychology as an evolving scientific field. As the course is delivered directly by the university, you will benefit from the same virtual learning environment used across LJMU. This ensures parity of academic standards, access to university resources, and direct engagement with school staff and supervisors. Throughout the course, you will develop advanced transferable skills in: research design critical thinking data analysis communication digital literacy evidence-based reasoning Your studies will culminate in a substantial independent empirical dissertation project, enabling you to apply psychological theory and methodological skills to a topic of personal, professional, or societal relevance.
