Overview
Palliative care is essential for improving the quality of life for patients facing life-limiting illnesses and their families. Research in this field addresses the complex physical, emotional, and social challenges associated with serious health conditions, contributing to more effective care practices, support systems, and policies that enhance patient-centred care. Our PhD in Palliative Care offers an in-depth exploration of the principles and practices of palliative care. The programme is structured to foster independent research, supported by expert supervision and access to clinical settings and interdisciplinary teams. You’ll receive comprehensive training in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, data analysis, and ethical considerations in palliative care research. Additional support includes workshops in scientific writing, grant applications, and career development. Collaborative opportunities with healthcare providers and community organisations enhance the practical relevance of research, preparing graduates for impactful careers in academia, clinical practice, and health policy advocacy. Potential research areas include symptom management, end-of-life decision-making, caregiver support, and the integration of palliative care into chronic disease management.
