Highlights: The curriculum is co-constructed, and teaching delivered, in partnership with schools selected for their excellent provision and sustained record of high-quality mentoring and involvement with teacher education. Guided by trained mentors, you will experience placements with different age ranges (three to seven, then seven to eleven) and in a wide variety of settings, including urban, rural, outdoor, mainstream and special needs. Taught entirely in Welsh, you’ll develop skills in educating bilingual and multilingual children. Following the revised Curriculum for Wales, this Welsh medium version of the BA (Hons) Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) comprises compulsory modules designed to embed the professional competencies needed to gain QTS. Learning theory and concepts relating to early childhood, childhood development and education, you’ll be taught by internationally renowned staff at the forefront of leading research into teaching and learning pedagogies. In each year of the degree, you are placed in a different lead school, purposefully identified for their best use and development of the Curriculum for Wales. Adding breadth and depth to your experience, this includes different age ranges and settings, urban and rural, both mainstream and special needs. Based in Gwynedd, a county with one of the highest numbers of Welsh speakers, you’ll join a welcoming bilingual university. You’ll participate in Welsh-speaking placements with schools across the region. Bangor University benefits from a longstanding and excellent reputation for teacher education. From your class and subject mentors to network lead mentors and our own staff, you’ll be encouraged at every stage to develop skills of the highest calibre. You will develop a thorough understanding of how children learn, together with the skills to become a creative and innovative teacher who can make a make a real difference to the lives of young people. On a comprehensive range of placements, you will be supported by experienced staff to learn how to plan appropriate schemes of work and consider assessment and reporting strategies. Capitalising on our expertise in outdoor education, not to mention our spectacular location near Eryri National Park Authority, you can even try outdoor education and forest school practice. Qualifying as a Teacher in Wales To become a teacher in Wales* and gain QTS, you must first complete a period of Initial Teacher Education (ITE) and meet the Professional Standards for Teaching and Leadership. Once you successfully complete this BA (Hons) Primary Education with QTS degree, the Education Workforce Council (EWC), which regulates the teaching profession in Wales, will issue your QTS certificate. You will also need to register with the EWC to work in a maintained school in Wales.
