British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited - your first step towards becoming a Chartered Psychologist. Course Overview: Forensic psychology looks at the connections between mental health, social development and problem behaviours - from identifying a risk of crime to crime being committed, criminal investigations, legal proceedings and the monitoring and release of offenders. As well as informing punishment and prevention, forensic psychologists advise on treatment and rehabilitation of offenders and contribute to debates on policing, crime and the criminal justice system. On this BPS-accredited Psychology degree, you’ll specialise in understanding the psychological factors behind why people may commit criminal or deviant behaviour. You will explore the psychological, biological, and sociological factors that lead someone to engage in behaviour that is harmful to others - and what constitutes a psychopath. Psychology has been taught at Bangor University since 1963. Welcoming students from all over the world, we provide a multilingual, multicultural environment in which to study human behaviour, taught by internationally renowned staff at the forefront of research to promote psychological wellbeing at all stages of life. Forensic psychologists work with those convicted of crime, those with chronic difficulties like illicit drug or alcohol abuse, or people whose behaviour places them at risk of offending. They support victims, families and others affected by criminals, and deal with the police, probation services, prisons, young offender institutions and secure mental health hospitals. On this BSc (Hons) Psychology with Forensic Psychology degree, you’ll develop clinically relevant skills and knowledge to understand the psychological aspects of investigation, legal process and offending behaviour. This prepares you for a host of professional tasks, from giving expert evidence in court or advising parole boards and mental health tribunals, to creating interventions to change attitudes and behaviour that may lead to reoffending. Successful completion of this accredited Psychology degree confers eligibility for Graduate Membership of the BPS and the Graduate Basis for Registration. BPS registration will set you on the path to becoming a Chartered Psychologist in any of the main psychological professions. This includes clinical and educational settings, counselling, health and developmental environments, cognitive neuroscience and applied behaviour analysis careers.
