Overview
Highlights: Our foundation year sets you up for success, developing your understanding of key science subjects- maths, biology, and IT - alongside essential academic and research skills that prepare you for degree-level study. Study a British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited Psychology degree that opens doors across professions and sectors. You'll graduate ready to pursue further training as a professional psychologist*, with the knowledge and skills to make a real impact. Learn from internationally renowned experts whose groundbreaking research in language, cognition, emotion, social behaviour, and mental health shapes what happens in the classroom- keeping your learning relevant, inspiring, and connected to the real world. Shape your degree around your ambitions. From clinical psychology and mindfulness to counselling, brain degeneration, and substance abuse, you'll choose from modules that align with your interests and the career you want to build. Research is at the heart of your Psychology BSc. Every year, you'll participate in and conduct research using industry-standard platforms like Qualtrics and Pavlovia, working with our student and specialist participant panels to develop hands-on expertise. Course Overview: Our BSc (Hons) Psychology (with Foundation Year) provides an alternative route into undergraduate study if, for example, you don’t have the necessary qualifications or cannot meet the entry requirements to begin the standard three-year Psychology degree. It is also appropriate for students who have been out of formal education for some years and want a year of broader education before progressing to the specifics of their chosen course. As part of an integrated four-year programme, the foundation year offers an excellent introduction to studying science subjects at the university level - before you progress to Year 1 of the BPS-accredited Psychology degree. You also have the option to transfer to the BSc Psychology with Clinical and Health Psychology, BSc Psychology with Neuropsychology or BSc Psychology with Forensic Psychology. Psychology has been taught at Bangor University since 1963, attracting students and faculty from around the globe. We offer a diverse, multilingual, and inclusive environment to study human behaviour, led by internationally renowned experts at the forefront of research to promote psychological well-being throughout life. The aim of all of our psychology degrees is to provide a scientific understanding of the human mind, our brain, behaviour and experience, and of the complex interactions between them. As well as a broad introduction to scientific subjects such as biology, maths, computer science, and IT and communications skills, you’ll get a taste of studying psychology at a higher level. Under the supervision of one of our academics, you’ll plan and conduct research on a relevant topic in psychology - developing the same research skills you’ll need to complete your undergraduate dissertation or research project. Successful completion of any of our BPS-accredited Psychology degrees confers eligibility for Graduate Membership of the BPS and the Graduate Basis for Registration, setting you on the path to becoming a Chartered Psychologist in any of the main psychological professions (clinical, educational, counselling, health, developmental, cognitive neuroscience, applied behaviour analysis).
