Overview
Individual trauma results from an event, series of events, or set of circumstances that is experienced by an individual as physically or emotionally harmful or life threatening and that has lasting adverse effects on the individual’s functioning and mental, physical, social, emotional, or spiritual well-being. This unit asks the question: how can social workers develop a relationship-based approach to practice, which understands and takes into account the repercussions of trauma experienced in childhood which may persist through adolescence and into adulthood? Trauma has become a commonly talked about topic due to its relevant application across the field of working with people. This is a chance to develop an in depth and current knowledge of trauma and to develop your skills to work in a trauma-informed way both with the people you work with, and within the organisation you are based.
