This short course provides an in‑depth, critically informed exploration of adult exploitation and safeguarding, grounded in contemporary research, policy and professional practice. It equips practitioners with the knowledge and confidence to understand the evolving nature of adult exploitation, engage with key academic debates, and examine their implications for safeguarding practice across the UK. The course encourages critical thinking about the complexities of adult safeguarding, supporting participants to challenge assumptions, navigate ethical dilemmas and respond effectively within real‑world practice contexts.Designed for professionals seeking to enhance both personal and organisational practice, the short course draws on expert teaching and the latest evidence in adult safeguarding. Participants will reflect on their own professional experiences, deepen their analytical skills, and apply learning directly to their workplace to drive meaningful change. By the end of the course, students will be better prepared to identify, respond to and prevent adult exploitation, contributing confidently to best practice within safeguarding systems and services. The course content will be delivered through a combination of classroom based and/or online lectures and seminars, skills development days in the workplace or online and observation exercises.You'll benefit from an engaging, practice‑focused learning experience that values collaboration, reflection and real‑world application. Teaching combines interactive lectures, seminars, tutorials and peer learning, allowing participants to share professional experiences and learn from one another. Reflective practice is central to the course, with students supported by a dedicated practice educator mentor who provides mentoring sessions to aid professional development. The course promotes a co‑created learning approach, ensuring teaching is responsive to students’ professional contexts and supports their growth as confident, effective practice educators. The course is delivered at our Bedford Campus, offering a professional learning environment supported by a range of academic and student services. You'll have access to teaching spaces suitable for lectures, seminars, skills development sessions and group learning activities. In addition, the University provides extensive learning support facilities, including the Study Hub for academic skills development, specialist student support services, a Student Information Desk for administrative queries, and access to experienced academic staff who support learning throughout the course.
