Highlights: Taught by internationally respected researchers exploring the effects of innovation, social changes, political and policy developments on health, mental health, poverty, social care, welfare and wellbeing. Gain real-life experience by undertaking a work placements, previous students have worked with Citizens Advice, Welsh Women’s Aid, Gisada, Gwynedd Council, Llandudno Museum, Conwy Youth Services, and the Prison Advice and Care Trust. Opportunities to discuss and debate society’s biggest issues and understand what leads people to feel differently about anything from anti-vaccination, climate change and immigration to Brexit and benefits. Benefit from a supportive study environment and hear from guest speakers, which have previously included North Wales Police, and Social Workers Without Borders. Close links with NGOs, criminal justice agencies and local/national governments. Course Overview: Have you ever wondered why people think and act in a certain way? Are you interested in power and control or why inequality, discrimination and other misfortunes still exist within a ‘civilised’ society? If so, this Sociology degree can help you better understand the world around you. Sociology investigates social life and the way it shapes people’s behaviour, beliefs and identity. Identifying social problems and understanding how social conditions impact our lives - in education, employment, wealth, health and more. Engaging in thought-provoking subject matters, our Sociology degree examines the face-to-face interactions of daily life to large-scale social institutions, social movements and global processes. At Bangor University, our Sociology degree draws on theory, evidence and real-world experience to make sense of social structures, social identities and social change. It aims to equip you with the tools and mindset to tackle social problems in the future. Studying alongside students from different backgrounds enables you to consider contemporary issues through the lens of others. This exciting opportunity allows you to spend a year working with a self-sourced, professional organisation relevant to your studies.
