Overview

We offer research opportunities in a range of veterinary and allied subject areas. These include veterinary infectious diseases, veterinary pathology, veterinary clinical sciences and epidemiology and one health. The opportunities are open to all appropriately qualified candidates and are not restricted to veterinarians. TheInstitute of Infection, Veterinary, and Ecological Sciences(IVES) brings together leading medical, veterinary and basic science researchers from across theFaculty of Health and Life Sciences. OurSchool of Veterinary Sciencesoffers world-leading research opportunities linked to our working farms and state-of-the-art referral hospitals on ourLeahurst Campusand our newveterinary practicelocated on the main campus in the vibrant city of Liverpool. There’s opportunities to collaborate with Chester Zoo, or engage with global initiatives through our partnerships with theLiverpool-Malawi Wellcome Trust facilityin Malawi and theInternational Livestock Research Institute in Kenya. Our multidisciplinary staff, including clinically qualified veterinary researchers, epidemiologists, social scientists and basic scientists, work together to prevent disease and improve the health and welfare of farmed, companion and working animals as well as wildlife. Our research spans a diverse range of areas, including animal health and welfare, infectious and non-infectious animal diseases, zoonotic disease surveillance and control, human-animal health interactions, and veterinary pathology and forensics. Entry requirements

IELTS: 6.5 overall, with no component below 5.5 TOEFL iBT: If you took a TOEFL test on or before 20 January 2026, you’ll need 88 overall, with minimum scores of listening 17, writing 17, reading 17 and speaking 19. If you took a TOEFL test from 21 January 2026 onwards, when a new scoring system was introduced, you’ll need 4.5 overall, with 4 or above in all components. TOEFL Home Edition not accepted.
