The University of Strathclyde is a public research university situated in Glasgow, Scotland. It is Glasgow’s second-oldest university and the first technological institute in the UK.

Extended Overview

The University of Strathclyde is a leading technological university located in one of the UK’s largest cities. It happens to be the third largest university in Scotland and also one of the largest providers of continuing professional development programmes in the UK. More than 34,000 individuals have taken part in their CPD programmes.

The institute takes great pride in having about 67 buildings over 500 acres of land. They established the Technology & Innovation Centre in 2015 worth £89m. The institute also has a triple-accredited business school (AMBA, AACSB, and EQUIS).

This huge institute is packed with more than 30,000 students, of whom about 4,200 are international students. The University of Strathclyde offers more than 470 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, 45 research programmes, and a great number of international students.

History

The roots of the University of Strathclyde can be traced back to 1796 with the establishment of the Andersonian Institute. In 1828, the institute became Anderson's University.

The Glasgow and West of Scotland Technical Colleges merged and became the Royal Technical College in 1912 and the Royal College of Science and Technology in 1956.

In 1964, the university gained university status and merged with the Scottish College of Commerce, becoming the University of Strathclyde.
