Highlights: This degree in Medical Sciences (with Foundation Year) prepares you for degree-level study, developing your knowledge of medical sciences, together with essential academic, research and laboratory skills. This BMedSci Medical Sciences feeds our Graduate Entry Medicine degree and Cardiff University’s Graduate Entry Medicine Programme (MBBCh). Bangor’s Graduate Entry Medicine degrees have been designed with Cardiff University, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, GPs and primary care providers across North Wales. You can complete your entire medical degree programme in North Wales, should you wish to do so, and if you are successful in securing one of the places available. Excellent facilities include well-equipped cell and molecular research laboratories, a Category 2 pathogen lab and state-of-the-art human anatomy suite with a 3D anatomy visualisation and virtual dissection tool. On successful completion of your Foundation Year, you can progress to our BMedSci Medical Sciences, BSc Biomedical Sciences, or BSc Pharmacology programmes. Course Overview: The BMedSci Medical Sciences (with Foundation Year) provides an alternative route into undergraduate study if you cannot meet the entry requirements to begin the standard three-year degree. It equips you with a basic understanding of the anatomical, biological, and chemical principles that underpin the field of medical sciences - essential to progress to the first year of the BMedSci. You also have the option to transfer to the BSc Biomedical Science or BSc Pharmacology programme. The additional year better prepares you both for higher level study and a career as a modern medical scientist. As well as the fundamentals of good laboratory practice you will learn core academic and numeracy skills, such as drafting essays, referencing your work, statistics, data handling and interrogation. Medical Sciences is concerned with how the human body works, both in health and illness. With the goal of improving diagnosis, treatment, awareness and prevention of disease, it is the science behind the knowledge applied through Medicine. The support you’ll gain from our close-knit learning community, broad curriculum, and our emphasis on practical experience and inquiry-based science provide a solid foundation for a future clinical or scientific career. On successfully completing the BMedSci Medical Sciences degree, competitive applications can be made for a limited number of places on our Graduate Entry Medicine Programme.
