Overview
The Short Course in Practice Educator Training: Stage 1 is a Level 7 programme designed for qualified and experienced social workers who support students in practice learning environments. The course focuses on developing high‑quality work‑based learning by exploring best practice in social work education, adult learning theory, and holistic assessment. Drawing on current research and professional standards, including the BASW Practice Capabilities Framework and Practice Educator Professional Standards, the course prepares practitioners to design effective learning curricula, integrate theory and values into practice education, and critically reflect on their role as practice educators. Successful completion enables participants to achieve Stage 1 Practice Educator status. Entry requirements
Entry requirements are outlined within the Practice Educator Professional Standards (BASW, 2022). Stage 1 applicants must be a registered social worker with two years post-qualifying experiences (ASYE year can be included). Applicants will also need to demonstrate they are practising at PCF ‘experienced social worker’ level and in accordance with social work values.
